CHINOISERIE - A HONG KONG STORY
THE BRIEF
This collection is my little love letter to Hong Kong –Â a city full of character, colour and memories.
I wanted to take some of the icons that feel unmistakably Hong Kong –Â the Star Ferry, tram, junk boat, cheongsam, Chinese fan, umbrella and teapot , and give them a fresh interpretation through the beautiful patterns and details of Chinoiserie.
There’s something I’ve always loved about the contrast of traditional blue and white with these familiar, everyday Hong Kong icons. Chinoiserie has its own fascinating history, growing out of the exchange of art, craftsmanship and ideas between China and the West. That mix of influences feels especially fitting for Hong Kong, a place where East and West, old and new have always existed side by side.
Each print is designed to feel familiar but a little unexpected, taking something you might have seen hundreds of times and encouraging you to look at it differently.
For me, the collection is really about nostalgia, heritage and a sense of home. A celebration of the small details and iconic sights that make Hong Kong, uniquely Hong Kong.
Styling the Collection
These prints work beautifully in spaces where you want to add character without overwhelming the room. Style them as a curated gallery wall for greater impact, or let a single piece become a quiet focal point above a console, bedside table or reading nook. Their classic blue-and-white palette pairs naturally with crisp whites, warm neutrals, natural timber, rattan and Chinoiserie-inspired ceramics, while small touches of red can add a striking contemporary accent.
