THE BRIEF

A bold, energetic visual identity created for the DBIS Marlins Dragon Boat Team, based in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong. The project brings together sport, community and the distinctive character of dragon boat racing in a brand designed to feel competitive, approachable and unmistakably local.

At the centre of the identity is the Marlins mascot, a playful but determined character gripping a dragon boat paddle. Deep blues and aquatic tones connect the brand to the sea, while the paddle and wave graphics reinforce the movement, strength and rhythm of the sport. Accents inspired by Hong Kong provide a clear connection to the team’s home.

The identity was developed beyond the logo into a complete team experience, including performance jerseys, race apparel, caps, visors, jackets, water bottles, dry bags, towels and other race-day merchandise. Consistent colours, typography and graphic elements allow the Marlins to present a unified identity both on and off the water.

Promotional applications were also created to demonstrate how the brand could work throughout the Discovery Bay community. Recruitment flyers, race posters, bus-stop advertising and event materials use dynamic dragon boat imagery alongside the team identity to communicate the camaraderie, fitness and excitement of joining the crew.

The overall creative direction is built around a simple idea: dragon boating is about more than racing. It is about teamwork, friendship, belonging and the shared determination required to move a boat forward together.
